I am Craig Emerson, the new caretaker and technician at Sky Oaks Field Station. I recently moved into the new trailer here, and started working on the facilities and equipment.
Here are some pictures of my fortress of solitude (i.e., the trailer). To be honest I didn't know that they made trailers this nice. Without exaggeration I can say that I have lived in apartments that were not as nice as this trailer, although thankfully not many!
Along with trying to get this field station back to glory of yesteryear, or in this case many yesteryear, I recently took a short walk to check out the property to the north of the compound to enjoy my surroundings and catalog some wildlife and so I did.
So it turns out that besides an abundance of LBD (little brown birds) this facility is also home to a pair of american kestrels (Falco sparverivus), common crow (Corvus brachyhynchos), California quail (Lophortyx californicus), blue-grey gnatcatcher's (Polioptila caerulea), and what I thought sounded like a ladder backed woodpeckers (Picoides scalaris). Kinda cool!
I took some cool pictures of what I thought was a California tree frog (Hyla cadaverina) and Pacific tree frog (Hyla regilla). The California tree frog was brooding over its clutch, which was wicked cool. Here's to altruistic behavior. I also found numerous tracks from some canines and ungulates, my guess is that it's coyotes and mule deer, but I haven't seen 'em so no way of telling.
Anyways that's the best of it so far. I noticed that there is what looks like some fun boulders near the property, but I have been saving that sort of fun having for after the towers are fully operational. Better believe that I will have ratings, GPS and picture for those as soon as I get a chance.
Cheers you all, until next time!
PS- the old internet is too slow to add pictures so I guess you all got to wait until I'm back in the real world. Enjoy!
